Description
Two manuscript letters from Cust to Armstrong (Director of the National Gallery of Ireland) both dated 9 November 1900 informing Armstrong that the Trustees of the National Portrait Gallery (UK) "accede to the request made by the Board of Governors and Guardians of the National Gallery of Ireland for a loan of the portrait of 'George Eliot' by Sir Frederic Burton, R.H.A." on detailed terms and conditions. The second letter is written in a less formal tone, and includes suggestions for packing, insuring, and transporting the picture as well as explaining that the Trustees of the Portrait Gallery wish the picture to be back by the Christmas holidays when they get their largest number of visitors.
