Notebook containing Frederic William Burton's notes on art
Description
Notebook with marbled covers containing handwritten notes by Burton relating to his studies on art, including an "Extract from Burdett on Composition," "Extracts from Flaxman's Lectures" including references to Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and others. Also included are sketches by Burton in pen on various aspects of form and anatomical studies as well as notes on proportion illustrated with example drawings of figures. Various classical and religious sketches are present, as well as a sketch of the Burton coat of arms which begins the notebook. Burton's personal notes and poetry can be found at the back of the notebook, with entries dating from the years 1838 and 1840.
