Description
Handwritten letter from Aloysius O'Kelly to James Herbert, accompanied by an envelope addressed to Herbert at his New York residence. Letter is addressed from John Street, Cashel, County Tipperary, and c/o Mrs McGrath. O’Kelly relates that he has arrived safely in Tipperary and has found lodgings. Discusses his expenses including the cost of rent, board, painting materials, eggs, tobacco, butter and postage. Mentions that he has opened a bank account with the National Bank and that James can send his cheque for May to any Irish bank. Discusses the weather and describes the town of Cashel. Mentions that there is evidence of the recent troubles in the ruined courthouses and police and military barracks. Describes the local people and the countryside.
