Description
Handwritten letter on headed paper, addressed from the Grand Hotel de Roma, Madrid in which Orpen writes of his pleasure at having seen the Prado and San Fernando. He mentions an acquaintance in Madrid, Speed, 'who is a great bore.' He also mentions a visit to an upcoming bull fight and hopes he will not 'dislike the blood and gore part - as I would hate to show any sign of doing so to the natives.' He makes reference to [Hugh] Lane, and how difficult it is to rouse him in the morning. Letter concludes with a pen sketch of the artist and Hugh Lane sitting in a busy city café.
