Illustrated letter from William Orpen to Grace Orpen from Madrid concerning new paintings, and the upcoming election at the 'New English' [Club]
Description
Handwritten letter on headed paper, addressed from the Grand Hotel de Roma, Madrid in which Orpen writes of how much he is learning each day and the photographs of paintings he has collected, but that they cannot do justice to the originals. He mentions that he is to paint 'a little spanish dancing girl on Sunday.' He also references that there is an upcoming election due at the 'New English' [Club], and mentions a number of participants such as Tonks [Henry Tonks (1862-1937), Sickert, MacColl, Brown, and John. He asks Grace to vote for him in his absence. Letter concludes with a pen sketch of a bull and matador.
