Fabrication of Setanta and Sails sculptures
Description
Photographs of the fabrication of Gerda Frömel's large scale sculptures in her foundry. Frömel held a number of important commissions to create works on a public scale, two notable examples being ‘Sails’ for the Carroll’s Factory in Dundalk, and 'Setanta' for the Setanta Centre on Nassau Street, Dublin. Sails sculpture is three tall vertical metal pillars reminiscent of airplane wings which can twist on their base and the Setanta sculpture is comprised of two large thin metal sheets arcing around one another with a pointed top. While living in Rathfarnam, Frömel and her husband Werner Schürmann started a foundry in which to create large scale sculptures.
