Sketchbook containing 12 pages of handwritten text in the German language, written in ink. Also includes 20 pages of inserts, including: - Newspaper and magazine clippings of images of Max Beckmann, Heinrich Heine, Brendan Behan and sculptures by Heinrich Kirchner and Toni Stadler. - “Kunstlerkolonie Darmstadt” booklet belonging to Gerda Frömel, including two stamps dated 15 December 1949 and 15 July 1950. - Letter from the Irish Department of Education to Werner Schurmann regarding his upcoming move to Dublin to take up employment in the National College of Art, Dublin, dated February 1956. Sketch in ink on reverse. - Handwritten poem in ink called Dink-A-Dat by Fergus Samuel Kelly. Small hand-drawn illustrations of the poem drawn on the page in ink. - Postcard addressed to W. Schurmann, 16 Strand Road, Merrion Gates, Dublin. Written in the German language in ink. Image of woman with cigarette in her mouth on front of postcard. - Sketch of man playing piano, drawn in ink. - Children’s sketch drawn of a person and the exterior of a house, drawn in ink and crayon. Rough sketch of person drawn in crayon on back.
