Description
Handwritten letter in which Orpen refers to a family property 'No.13' and its long-term use. He also comments on a painting he is to undertake of a 'cook at S.K.' He writes that 'he [the cook] is great, but he would like to be painted there [at S.K.] and that is fairly improbable.' Letter also mentions his work on the [Bernardga?] picture, which is 'a bit better today - so I am more hopeful - but it's a long way off the end yet.' Letter also includes a pen sketch of Orpen in a dinner suit standing between two men, giving a speech. The letter text opens with the accompanying caption 'Mr. William of Orpen makes his maiden speech at the house of the most Benevolent Society of the Brothers of Saint Patrick.' [No.13 may refer to the Orpen family home at 13 Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London]
