Description
Handwritten letter on Metropolitan School of Art headed paper, in which Orpen tells of his plan to visit Clonsilla to paint 'the child.' He includes a pen sketch of an Irish owl for his daughter Mary. He writes that he encountered the bird on his way home last night and that he [the owl] was 'quite cheery and kind and very proud because he thought he looked like a Goya.' [Clonsilla may likely refer to the residence of Mrs. St. George , with whom Orpen had a lengthy relationship. He painted a number of portraits for the family, including an annual portrait of Mrs. St. George's daughter, Gardenia St. George]
