Description
Handwritten letter in which Orpen discusses his work on the Mahaffey portrait, writing that he has begun that day and has made a 'fairly good start but he will be a terror to please.' He continues 'so far he tells me no portrait has been the least like him ... it might be difficult to please him as he has an enormous opinion of himself mentally and physically.' Letter includes a pen sketch of Mahaffey's headshot in profile. Letter also makes reference to Orpen's parents, financial matters, and George Moore's departure to London.
