Description
Handwritten letter on headed paper, addressed from 39 Princes Square W, in which Orpen discusses a dinner appointment with Grace, and seeks her opinion on a suitable location. Acquaintances mentioned include Mrs. Swinton, and [Cris?]. Orpen also comments on his mother and father, noting that his mother feels his father 'was really not a bad man - but he had such funny ideas about money and marriage, but that all he wanted was a bit of talking to.' He also comments on 'Charlie's marriage', and his mother's thoughts in that regard, feeling it a little rushed. [William's brother Charles Orpen married Cerise Maria Darley on 27 Aug 1901] Letter is accompanied by an envelope addressed to Miss Grace Knewstub at Milton Cottage, 12 North Hill, Highgate N., London, and postmarked from Paddington, dated 28 June 1901
