Description
Handwritten letter in which Orpen writes that he has had lunch that day in General Headquarters [GHQ] with the CinC [Commander-in-Chief, Douglas Haig?] and that he was 'very charming and kind to me.' He also writes that Philip Sassoon is in London. He explains that he will now have an opportunity to visit two local aerodromes as part of his work. He is to be accompanied by Maurice Baring (1874-1945), who appears to be a known acquaintance. He concludes by updating Grace on T.T's health and wellbeing. [Maurice Baring was a dramatist, poet, novelist, translator and essayist, and also a travel writer and war correspondent. During World War I, Baring served in the Intelligence Corps and Royal Air Force.]
