Description
Handwritten letter in which Orpen mentions that he has been to GHQ to paint 'Haig' [Portrait of Haig at General Headquarters, France, 1917], and that 'he is one of the nicest things [sic] I have met.' Orpen also comments that he has received a nice letter from 'Tonks' [Henry Tonks (1862-1937)], and asks Grace to send him [Orpen] copies of the latest edition of the New Statesman magazine as there is an article of interest included. Letter is accompanied by an envelope addressed to Mrs William Orpen at 11 Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London, Angleterre, and is postmarked as 11 April 1917
