Description
Handwritten letter in which Orpen describes the explosion of a nearby munition dump, which was first mistaken for an air raid. He describes the windows of his residence being blown in, and his sitter commenting in jest that Orpen was the target. Orpen also comments on the lack of letters from Grace, and wonders if they are being delayed by the censor. Letter is accompanied by an envelope addressed to Mrs William Orpen at the Corner House, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London and is postmarked 7 April 1917
