Letter from William Orpen to Grace Orpen commenting on a portrait of [Clara Hughes] for the Hughes family of Kersal

Description
Handwritten letter on headed paper, addressed from The Gables, Singleton Road, Kersal, in which Orpen complains that 'the child' [Clara Hughes] is troublesome and will not sit still. His impressions of her portrait change regularly, from good to bad, even at one point thinking he might submit it to the 'New English' [Club]. He also mentions briefly that he will visit Mr. [David] Lloyd-Roberts, but asks Grace not to mention it to anyone. [David Lloyd-Roberts (1835-1920), passed away in 1920, but a portrait of him by Orpen is housed in the Royal College of Physicians, London and dated as 1923]
