Illustrated letter from William Orpen to Grace Knewstub concerning his time in Cany, France
Description
Handwritten letter on headed paper, addressed from the Hotel Du Commerce, Cany, France, in which Orpen gives Grace permission to visit his rooms in London to check on various mouse traps whilst he is away. He asks her to forgive the untidiness. He goes on to praise Cany highly, and to describe his time there and his painting plans. He also makes reference to a recent meeting between them and asks Grace's forgiveness for his behaviour, writing that 'I sometimes forget who I am and aspire too high - but I am always sorry for hurting your feelingsafterwards.' He concludes with a pen sketch of a four-poster bed and the artist sitting up inside the canopy.
