Description
Black and white prints reproducing portrait paintings by William Orpen. A small number of prints include inscriptions on the rear noting the subject's identity, and/or featuring a stamp for the photographic studio which created the reproduction. Subjects include military figures, society figures, members of the academic community, children, a number of Orpen's own self-portraits, alongside a number of Orpen's landscape and still life scenes. The majority of the prints are mounted on card, while a small number are paper prints only. The primary photographic studio/photographer is identified as Paul Laib, Fine Art Photographer, 3 Thistle Grove, South Kensington, London. Identified landscape and still life scenes include The Wreck; Two Chinese; The Fracture; The Jockey (self-portrait); The Wash House; The Dead Ptarmigan (a Self-Portrait); and Dead Pheasant.
