Description
This series contains correspondence concerning Sir Denis Mahon's work advising cultural organisations, dealerships, and collectors on questions of attribution, funding, and governance. His role as Trustee of the National Gallery, London is represented here, as is his work with the National Art Collections Fund, The British Fund for the National Gallery of Ireland, The Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Old Masters Exhibition Society of New York, among others. Personal memberships are also reflected here, including those undertaken with the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and The British Academy. Records concerning his broader involvement in the formal art sphere include files detailing invitations to exhibitions and academic events, requests for interviews and lectures, and files regarding specific matters of the day, such as organisational re-structuring of key art establishments such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, as well as his interventions in the Hugh Lane Bequest.
