Description
Recounts her voyage and subsequent misfortunes on travelling to Melbourne, Australia. All her money had been lost in business, and she parted from ‘James’ after he struck her; ‘he is the most notorious liar I have known’. She was then living in Ballarat, 100 miles from Melbourne, where she had found friends and had worked as a dressmaker, housekeeper, and had kept a grog tent. Envelope marked ‘Aunt Martha’s letter to her parents’ in Cottie’s hand.
