Walter Osborne Collection
Description
This collection contains material related to the life and career of Walter Osborne. It includes a photographic collection of 106 photographs collected/created by Walter Osborne. This Includes photographs from places visited by Osborne, some of which he also painted. All photographs (mounted and loose) were once maintained in one photographic album comprising photographs predominantly from France, Belgium, England, and Ireland. Also included are four letters from Walter Osborne to [his brother Charles Edward Osborne (d.1936)]. The collection also contains the artist's 1878 (aged 18) Pocket-sized week-per-view diary, including pencil entries for months January until end August. Finally, included are materials known as the Gorry Collection, which represents correspondence relating to Walter Osborne and his family, Photographs of Osborne and his family members, Walter Osborne's diary for the year 1892, sketches and artwork by Walter Osborne and his father William Osborne (as well as photographs of Walter's paintings, some of which no longer exist), and ephemera from the artist's life including prints, press cuttings, a leather purse containing material related to the death of Osborne's sister Violet, and material relating to the Gorry Gallery in Molesworth Street, Dublin, Ireland.
