Correspondence between Séamus Murphy and the National Gallery of Ireland
Description
Collection contains five items of correspondence concerning a proposed exhibition in Cork to mark the centenary of the “Nation” newspaper, for which Séamus Murphy was commissioned to create a bronze bust of the Young Irelander Thomas Davis. Includes four letters relating primarily to a loan request for pictures and drawings of the Young Irelanders from the National Gallery of Ireland collection for the exhibition. Correspondents include National Gallery of Ireland Registrar Brinsley McNamara, Director George Furlong, and Seán Moylan from the Department of Defence. Also includes one letter from Murphy, seeking a photographic likeness of Davis from the Gallery collection for his preparatory work.
