Description
Collection contains material related to the life and career of artist Harry Aaron Kernoff. It includes Kernoff's correspondence with James White (tenth Director of the National Gallery of Ireland) and satirical poems written by Kernoff as well as woodcuts by the artist. The bulk of the collection is composed of loose photographs and loose pages from a photograph album depicting a wide variety of artwork by Kernoff during the years he was active as an artist between 1922 and 1966. A majority of the photographs are titled, occasionally dated, and may include further information regarding the original work such as size or medium. These photographs depict portraits of well-known Irish citizens with whom Kernoff would have been in contact, exteriors and landscapes of Dublin and its surroundings, interiors and still life paintings, allegorical and literary works, costume and theatrical set designs, and abstract works.
