Description
Handwritten letter from Burton in Dingle (County Kerry, Ireland) to George Petrie regarding a terrible downpour of rain that had occurred the previous day. Burton then goes on to discuss ruins of ancient buildings he had visited in the Dingle area. At the bottom of the third page he has drawn a rough sketch of the ruins giving dimensions. On the sixth page there are two rough sketches, one of the entrance to a ruined structure and the second of a rough plan showing the entrance to another ruin. On the tenth page he relates details about his visit to an area around Dingle called [Curmukeen] (Knockeen) and the old tombs and Ogham stones he found there. On the eleventh page Burton has sketched two Ogham stones. (Published in W. Stokes, ‘Life of George Petrie’).
