| Description |
Written from Bray. Gore thanks Georgina for writing to him, as well as his other aunts Selina, Pamela and Eugenie (all sisters of his mother Dorothea). He explains that he recently suffered of an illness he was told was due to “weakness and impaired valvular action of the heart”, but was still manageable. He talks about his convalescence before enquiring about Georgina’s own health, as she seemed to be having issues with her hand, which is why he asks her not to writes back. He finally asks about Georgina’s husband John. The envelope bears two stamps, one from Bray on 11 November 1885, and one from Essex the next day. The letter is addressed to Georgina's home at the rectory of Rochford, Essex (as her husband was a reverend). On the back of the envelope, below the stamp from Essex, Elizabeth Crampton Gore has written in pencil “Letter from my father to aunty Georgie”. |
