| Title | Handwritten and illustrated letter from William Orpen to William Crampton Gore, thanking Gore for his letter of congratulations |
|---|---|
| Creator | Orpen, Sir William, |
| Date | c. 1902 |
| Ref | IE NGI/IA/CRA1/1/1/2/1 |
| Description |
The drawing of Orpen playing with a baby, with written beneath “With love from the happy DAD”, indicates that the letter could have been written around the birth of Orpen’s first daughter Mary in 1902, which could then be the object of the congratulations he thanks Gore for at the beginning of the letter. He enquires about their common friends and relates a visit he recently had from “Cam and Walter”. He then asks Gore to thank a common friend who has sent him flowers, and hopes Gore is “doing good work”. He finishes by talking about patrons. |
