Description
Brief notes on works in the Witt collection, many from the Courtauld Gallery. The second part of the folder deals with Guercino's (1591-1666) drawings in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The date May 1938 is written beside this heading. There are notes and extracts from 18th and 19th century writings about Guercino, especially a collection of prints in imitation of drawings … to which are annexed "Lives of their Authors, with Explanatory and Critical Notes", by Charles Rogers (1711-1784), 2 vols. Char, 1778. This work consists of a series of carefully executed facsimiles of original drawings from the great masters, engraved in tint. The 112 plates were engraved by Bartolozzi (1727 - 1815) and others.
