Description
File of paintings by Francesco Solimena and Mattia Preti. There are various stamps on the verso of many of the prints including, "Photo Studios Limited, 3 Tenterden Street, Hanover Square, W.1" and one belonging to the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, London. There are also detailed annotations on the verso of many prints. The paintings in this file were found in collections in various locations, such as Calabria, Vienna, Dresden, Museo Nazionale in Naples and numerous locations in Malta including Valletta, the Palazzo Verdala in Boschetto and the Concattedrale di San Giovanni. Paintings represented include, by Solimena; "Porzia e Bruto," "Allegoria" and "Sophonisba Receiving a Gift." Included, by Preti; "The Incredulity of St Thomas," "The Conversion of St Paul," "The Liberation of St Peter," "La Giuditta" and "The Prodigal Son."
