Description
Photographs of works mainly by Caravaggio or in the style of Caravaggio, as well as a work by Alonso Rodriguez. There are also photographs of Latin text, handwritten notes and correspondence with Anna Buxton, Horst Friedrich and Signore Franco Russo. There are handwritten annotations on the verso of many of the prints, as well as stamps including Foto Boccardi, Vasari, Photo Aragozzini and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts. The paintings in this file were found in various collections and institutions such as the Courtauld Institute, Denstone College, Collection Borghese, the National Gallery London and a Christie's sale in March 1963. The paintings represented include; "Madonna and Child," "Una Sibilla," "John the Baptist," "St Francis in Prayer," "David with the Head of Goliath," "St Sebastian," "Crowning with Thorns," "Cena di Emaus," "Incredulity of St Thomas," "Portrait of Pope Paul V" and "Poppies in a Wine Flask."
