Minutes of board meeting held on 20th April 1857 in which the following was discussed: this was a special meeting held between the Governors and Building Trustees. The Building Trustees state that they will decline to enter into any contract until an additional sum of £20,000 is provided. The details of the sum actually required for the completion of the gallery are provided by Mr Lanyon. There is a breakdown of figures. There is figure of £18,476 outlined. There is a transcription of a request to the Treasury for £12,000. This letter is finished with the actual figures received by the National Gallery of Scotland.
