Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 14th July 1978 in which the following was discussed: more information was received regarding the salary and pension for the new Director, who would be starting after the retirement of current Director, James White. Information was discussed regarding the current staffing of the Gallery and issues with the attendants. Two portraits by W.J. Leech were declined for purchase. "Woodland Scene" by John Butts was approved for purchase [NGI 4306]. "Portrait of a man" by a late 17th or early 18th century Dutch painter was bequeathed to the Gallery. The board accepted a gift of a library of art books, currently in University College Dublin, from Dr Francoise Henry, which were to remain at U.C.D. until they were no longer of use to students. A loan was granted to the National Museum. Four concerts were permitted to be held in the Gallery, along with three receptions. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed. The Director was instructed to enquire to the Board of Works about decorating the boardroom and repairing the furniture.
