Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 9th December 1977 in which the following was discussed: a vote of sympathy was passed on the death of Mr Raymond McGrath, new board member as President of the Royal Hibernian Academy, due to the recent retirement of Mr McGonigal. A report was made on the progress of the installation of frescoes. The opening of Malahide Castle was discussed. The Director reported on the progress of the new education officer, however he had received a letter from the Minister enquiring as to why a specific male candidate was not chosen, and requesting that an additional curatorial post be made for this applicant. The salary and pension of the new Director was discussed. A drawing by William Mulready was approved for purchase. The following gifts were accepted; "Portrait of Patrick J. Little" by Sean O'Sullivan [NGI 7809], "Portrait of Lennox Robinson" by A. Purtscher [NGI 4208], 6 sketches and 12 letters relating to Vere Foster Group, and 39 art books presented by Miss Mary Swanzy. Six requests for loans were approved. Two requests to hold receptions in the Gallery were sanctioned, along with a request from the German Institute to hold a concert in the Gallery. Two requests to use the lecture theatre were also approved. The board accepted the loan of a collection of paintings from Sir Alfred Beit. The Shaw Fund and Lane Fund were discussed. It was agreed that future gift donors should be invited to have tea with the board in the December meeting.
