Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 14th October 1977 in which the following was discussed: Mr J. McCarthy, the new Chairman of the Commissioners of Public Works was welcomed to the board. A letter was received from Mr Bruce Arnold, seeking access to part of the Orpen collection not on display. Further funding was allocated to the installation of frescoes. Miss Niamh O'Sullivan was selected as the new education officer for the Gallery. The following purchases were approved; "Self-portrait" by St. George O'Hare [NGI 4203], an Italianate Landscape by Gaspare Gabrielli [NGI 4202], and two portraits of Evie Hone by Hilda van Stockum [NGI 4204-4205]. The following gifts were accepted; "In Memory of Bianconi and Boucicault" by Jack B. Yeats [NGI 4206], "Portrait of Justice James Creed Meredith" by Sean O'Sullivan [NGI 7807], "Portrait of Arabella Persse Joyce" by Charles Luytens [NGI 4207], and pictures, sculptures and various objects of art bequeathed by the late John Hunt. Two requests for loans were sanctioned, as well as three requests to hold receptions in the Gallery. Two requests to use the lecture theatre were also approved. The board agreed to extend the opening hours of the Gallery to 11pm for the "Dinner of the Month." The Royal Hibernian Academy was permitted to hold their annual exhibition in the Gallery. A sub-committee was formed to deal with the upcoming retirement of the Director. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
