Minutes of a board meeting held on 15th April 1977 in which the following was discussed: the Director was congratulated on having received the Italian Order of Merit, and Professor Mitchell was congratulated on receiving honours from N.U.I. More information was given about Malahide Castle and the photographer for the Gallery. The following were approved for purchase; a portrait of Sir Robert Mayer by Derek Hill [NGI 4192], two small paintings by Grace Henry [NGI 4193-4194] and a small sketchbook by Paul Henry, and a landscape by Solomon Delane [NGI 4195]. A portrait of Luke Gardiner by Francis Cotes was declined. The following bequests were accepted; a portrait of General Botet Trydell and a miniature of John Trydell, and a homage to Frans Hals by John Keating [NGI 4196]. The following gifts were also accepted; "Phaethon" attributed to Eustache Le Sueur, a double portrait attributed to 17th century English school [NGI 4198], a self-portrait from the French Romantic school [NGI 4199], "The Beach at Malahide" by Evie Hone [NGI 7796], "Trees at Marlay" by Evie Hone [NGI 7797], a composition by Mainie Jellet and a sketch for one of the decorative panels for Glasgow Exhibition, also by Mainie Jellet [NGI 7798-7799]. A miniature of John O'Keeffe by Daniel O'Keeffe was accepted. Five requests for loans were granted. The Irish Exhibition of Living Art was sanctioned to take place in the Gallery, however an exhibition by the Demarco Gallery, Edinburgh, was refused. Two requests to hold lectures in the Gallery were granted, along with five requests to hold receptions. Mrs Muriel Brandt was appointed judge for the Taylor Art Competition. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
