Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 11th April 1975 in which the following was discussed: the Director gave his report on the progress of redecoration of the Gallery and the work being done to the Milltown Rooms and the electric installation was discussed. The Director reported on a visit by the Garda enquiring as to the source of the purchase of the Jacques Louis David painting. The plan for the snack bar was submitted. The arrangements for the annual press conference regarding the Director's annual report were made. Mr E.A. McGuire and Mr Terence De Vere White were appointed Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively. The following were approved for purchase; a portrait of Eaton Stannard by James Latham [NGI 4124], three murals by Jacob Ennis [NGI 4125-4127] and two paintings by George Barret. The following gifts were accepted; a watercolour of a woman by Adam Buck, "Study for a Pieta" by Mainie Jellet, and 1 oil and 67 drawings by various artists from Ciaran MacGonigal. £250 was received from Mr John B. Hammun. Two loan requests were approved. Mrs Muriel Brandt was appointed to represent the board as a judge for the Taylor Art Competition. Permission was granted for three functions and two concerts to take place in the Gallery, as well as an exhibition of Irish Living Art. Students were to be engaged in restoration work over the summer once again at a cost of £2000. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
