Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 19th April 1974 in which the following was discussed: Mr William Denis Finley and Mr Patrick Scott were appointed to the board. Discussion was held on the staffing of the Gallery. Mr E.A. McGuire and Mr Terence De Vere White were appointed as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively. "The Mouth of the Bray River" by Thomas Collier [NGI 7599] was approved for purchase, as well as "Charlie Brindley, Huntsman, Ward Union Hunt" by Michael Angelo Hayes [NGI 7600]. A portrait by Robert Hunter was refused for purchase, along with a portrait of James Joyce. The board accepted the following bequests; "Portrait of George O'Brien" by Muriel Brandt [NGI 4076], 24 paintings, drawings and manuscripts by Paul Henry, 31 paintings by Samuel Lover and 49 books written or illustrated by him. Portraits of Professor Thomas Bodkin amd Fr. Matthias Bodkin by James Sleator and Mini Steiner respectively [NGI 4084-4085]. The board accepted the following gifts; carved stone heads of Gladstone and Palmerston by S.J. Wynn, 16 watercolour views of Dublin and sketches by Flora H. Jameson (Mitchell), three portfolios of drawings, letters and other documents by Sir William Orpen. The board accepted two loans and granted two requests for loans. Six requests for functions were sanctioned, and permission was also given for an exhibition of Irish Living Art to be held in the Gallery. The Director read a report regarding Capital Taxation. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed, along with staffing of the Gallery.
