Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 9th February 1973 in which the following was discussed: the following were approved for purchase; watercolour of Daniel O'Connell by Elizabeth Soyer [NGI 7534], the design for the seal of The National Gallery of Ireland by Harry Clarke [NGI 7535], and a portrait of Mrs Clementson by Sir Martin Archer Shee (NGI 4058). "A Landscape with Rocks" by Roderic O'Conor was also purchased [NGI 4057]. The board declined to purchase the following; "The Four Courts" by James Malton, "St Patrick's Cathedral from the South" by James Malton, "St Patrick's Cathedral from the West" by James Malton and "Portrait of a Girl with Red Hair" by Roderic O'Conor. A portrait of Miss Ffrench Mullen by Cecil Ffrench Mullen was accepted as a gift [NGI 4059]. It was agreed to cast a sculpture by Jerome Connor in bronze [NGI 8233]. An exhibition of French and American paintings by the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, Ohio, was to be held in the Gallery. Three requests for loans were granted. The Director's annual report was submitted for approval and a press conference to be held. Six requests for functions to be held in the Gallery were approved. The Independent Artists were refused permission to hold their annual exhibition in the Gallery. RTE was given permission to hold concerts in the Gallery. The employment of students was proposed and approved. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
