Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 1st October 1971 in which the following was discussed: a vote of sympathy was passed for the relatives of the late Judge Conor Maguire. Mr Philipson was welcomed to the board. A report from the Finance Sub-Committee was read. The following items were approved for purchase; "Bust of a Woman" by Thomas Kirk [NGI 8096], "Bridget Patmore" by Sir Francis Rose [NGI 7469], "Father Matthew Giving the Pledge" by Joseph Patrick Haverty [NGI 4035]. "George Egerton" by E.A. Walton was accepted as a gift [NGI 7470], as well as "Lady Chester Beatty" by [John] Singer Sargent [NGI 7468]. The board gratefully accepted two pictures on loan, "Michael Collins after Death" by Lily Williams, and "J.M. Healy" by William Orpen. The Institution of Structural Engineers was denied the use of the lecture theatre for a function, while a request from the National Library Society for use of the theatre was granted. The Hammer Collection of French paintings was offered as an exhibition for the Gallery, and accepted. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
