Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 1st June 1962 in which the following was discussed: a letter was read concerning the possible sale to the National Gallery of Ireland a picture 'ranking in Britain as of national importance' without liability of death duty. A new estimate of £1350 submitted for restoration of Milltown Furniture (up from original £400). A letter was read from the Earl of Crawford looking for funds to contribute to a purchase for a de Vinci for the National Gallery of London. Short list for new assistant role down to Desmond Fennell and Miss Ethna Waldron. A letter was read from Detective Inspector A J Kenny conveying his observations about the possibility of unauthorised entry. It was noted that members of Civic Guards Pensioners Association 'appeared willing to give their services' - this was to be investigated. It was decided to purchase "Young Girl in a Park" by François Boucher [NGI 1723] from Wildenstein's London for £6500. It was decided to purchase "Portrait of Adolphe Market" by Gustave Courbet [NGI 1722] for £8500 from the Mathiesen Gallery, London. Brief discussion of Shaw and Lane Funds.
