Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 1st February 1962 in which the following was discussed: the Chairman welcomed to the board Dr Francoise Henry who was 'nominated by the government'. The Chairman 'described a gratifying announcement' that Department of Education had allocated £277,000 for the proposed Gallery extension. Brief discussion on the Library and the Restaurant in relation to the extension. The Director expressed his willingness to pay back part of his salary in accordance with instructions from the Department of Education. The estimate to restore the Milltown Furniture was revised from £400 to £1000, question raised as to whether the Shaw Fund could be used for same. It was agreed to offer George Fitzgerald of London £50 for a Portrait of Thomas Murphy. It was agreed to lend the panel of St Augustine to an exhibition at Cloister, New York. It was agreed to lend "The Entombment and the Holy Family" by Poussin [NGI 214 and 915] to an exhibition 'The Classical Ideal' to be held in Bologna. It was agreed to lend "Above the Fair" and "Men of Destiny" [NGI 1147 and 1134] by J B Yeats to the Irish National Section of the Venice Biennale. Brief discussion of proposed legislation. Discussion on security measures including alarm bells and fire extinguishers and the appointment of a night watchman. Brief discussion of Shaw Fund and detailed breakdown of payments/receipts and structure of Lane Fund. The gift of greeting cards by the Electricity Supply Board to be acknowledged.
