Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 5th February 1971 in which the following was discussed: a vote of sympathy was passed for the relatives of the late Professor Felix Hackett. The Christ the King statue was deemed to not be suitable for the Gallery. A letter was received from Lady Mayer in reference to the gift of a painting by Patinir, which was to be given to the Gallery after her death. The following were approved for purchase; a sketch book by William Howis, two paintings from the German school, and a marble bust of a young girl by John Lawlor [NGI 8083]. A portrait of Miss Biddy Campbell by Patrick Tuohy was accepted [NGI 4027]. A loan of two paintings was granted to the Tate Gallery. The Royal Hibernian Academy and the Irish Exhibition of Living Art were both permitted to hold their exhibitions within the Gallery. Permission was granted for seven functions to occur within the Gallery. The Director's annual report for 1970 was read and approved. The Director was authorised to visit the USA to form relations with potential American benefactors. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
