Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd October 1970 in which the following was discussed: Mr Ryan's tenure as Registrar had come to an end and Miss McCarthy was appointed as his temporary replacement. A letter from the Board of Works was received stating that the passage-way between Merrion Square and Kildare Street could not be opened for safety reasons. The board decided to purchase the following works; "Chronus with one of his Children" by Ferdinand Dietz [NGI 8081), two trompe l'oeil paintings from the Irish School [NGI 4007-4008], four paintings by James Arthur O'Connor [NGI 4010-4013], a portrait of General Liam Lynch [NGI 4014], and a landscape in oil by W.J. Leech. The board sanctioned seven loan requests, and agreed to seven receptions being held in the Gallery. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed. The Director informed the board that all the paintings that had been restored over the summer were on view in the lecture theatre for inspection by those at the meeting.
