Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th December 1968 in which the following was discussed: a vote of sympathy was passed for Professor F.E. Hackett, on the death of his wife. Mr Brenini was no longer available to carry out the restoration of the Raphael cartoons. New appointments to the staff of the Gallery were made. The holding of a Portraits Exhibition in the Gallery was approved. A reply was received from the Attorney-General in regards to holding receptions in the Gallery. The board discussed its picture lending policy in detail. The board sanctioned loans to the Tate Gallery, the Arts Council of Great Britain and the Museum of Bordeaux. A bequest of six watercolours by Father Jack Hanlon was accepted, along with items from his studio. A portrait of Mrs De Valera by Sean O'Sullivan was gifted to the Gallery [NGI 6990]. The board accepted a loan from Sir Alfred Beit of a collection of pictures. The board decided to purchase the following; a marble bust of a man by Lawrence Gahagan [NGI 8058], an oil painting by Maurice Vlaminck ["Flowers" NGI 1877], a book of coloured engravings by Denis Sullivan [NGI 10039] and six paintings by Harry Clarke [NGI 1878-1883]. The Magawly Banon Fund was mentioned. Meeting the costs of the Restoration Department was discussed. It was agreed to hold the Children's Art Holiday once again. The Shaw Fund and Lane Fund were discussed.
