Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th October 1968 in which the following was discussed: permission was granted for a concert to be held in the Gallery. The board resolved that they could not legally give a donation towards the restoration of the statue of Shaw in Shaw's corner. The board accepted the following as gifts; sketch for a mural by Hans Hoffman, a portrait of James Joyce by Augustus John [NGI 6876], a sketch by Evie Hone [NGI 6875] and a watercolour by Sir Edward Burne-Jones ["King Acrisius and his Daughter Danae", NGI 6874]. The board approved the following purchases; three watercolours by W.J. Leech [NGI 6878-6880], two oil paintings by Paul Henry [NGI 1869-1870], a landscape by Morris Bradford [NGI 1872] , "Alaskan Natives" by E.P. Ziegler [NGI 1871], three Mamie Jellets [NGI 1873-1875], sketch book by Solomon Williams [NGI 6877], a drawing by James F. Wanby, and a drawing by J.G. Oben [NGI 6882]. There was discussion surrounding the new Gallery wing, which had opened on the 25th September 1968. Discussion was held regarding the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund. The board commented on the restoration of pictures and the exhibition of Irish portraits.
