Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 7th June 1968 in which the following was discussed: the board confirmed the following purchases; "Madonna and Child" by Lorenzo Ghiberti and portrait of a man by Walter Osborne [NGI 8049 and NGI 1859]. Mr Terence De Vere White was reappointed as judge of the Taylor Art Competition. Requests to hold receptions in the Gallery were discussed. The board granted permission for RTE concerts to be held in the Gallery. The Royal Academy made a request for loans of items from the Gallery, which was granted. The board decided to purchase the following; a bust by Caffieri [NGI 8051], "Madame Buchon" by Courbet [NGI 8050], a portrait group by Thomas Hickey [NGI 1860], a bust of Judge Burton by Thomas Kirk [NGI 8052] and a portrait of Lennox Robinson by Dermod O'Brien [NGI 1862]. The board accepted the gift of "The Deer-Park, Powerscourt" by Dermod O'Brien [NGI 1861]. The Director reported on staffing of the Gallery and the progress of the new wing. The board agreed to pay the expenses of the Italian Restoration team from the Shaw Fund. The board discussed the affairs of the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund. The Director informed the board that a painting had been stolen from the Irish Room of the Gallery. The painting in question, a portrait of the Earl of Conyngham by Hamilton, had been stolen on 30th May and every effort was being made to obtain it.
