Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd June 1967 in which the following was discussed: a letter was received from the Department of Labour. Mr Terence De Vere White was appointed as judge of the Taylor Art Competition. The board sanctioned loans to the National Gallery of Canada and to the Guercino Exhibition, Bologna. The board accepted a portrait of Mary Lapsley Guest by John Butler Yeats, bequeathed by Mrs Guest [NGI 1821]. The board approved of the purchase of the following works; "Porquerolles" by Albert Marquet [NGI 1822], two decorative groups by Andre Brustdon [NGI 8028-8029]. The Director was authorised to attend an upcoming auction at Christie's, London, to bid for two works. The board discussed their picture lending policy. Applications were received for receptions in the Gallery. Discussion was held regarding the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund. A report was read on the progress of the new wing and the board discussed its opening arrangements when the time came. The Director submitted a scheme regarding staffing in the Gallery. There was discussion surrounding the publication of a book on The National Gallery. The Director read a report on his visit to Sir Owen O'Malley at Oxford.
