Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 3rd February 1967 in which the following was discussed: £420 had been collected for the Florentine Art Treasurers Fund. The board decided to spray asbestos on the ceiling of the Board Room to better the acoustics. Dr Henry was reappointed to the board for a further 5 years. The Director's annual report for 1966 was read and approved. A portrait of W.B. Yeats by Sir William Rothenstein was offered as a gift to the Gallery and accepted [NGI 3851]. The board decided to purchase the following works; "Siege of Calais" by the School of Fontainbleu, Portrait of a Woman attributed to Allesandro Longhi [NGI 1814], Bust of a Man by John Hogan [NGI 8024], Portrait of Ruth Draper by Sean O'Sullivan [NGI 3850] and "View of the Eagles Nest, Killarney" by Jonathan Fisher [NGI 1813]. The picture lending policy of the board was discussed. The National Portrait Gallery, London, submitted a request for the loan of a portrait of Edwin Burke by Sir Joshua Reynolds, which was granted. The board discussed the progress of the new wing of the Gallery and staffing arrangements within the Gallery. The board agreed to two further concerts being held in the Gallery by Radio Eireann. Comments were made regarding the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund.
