Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd December 1966 in which the following was discussed: the board passed a vote of sympathy for the relatives of late board member Mr Sean T.O. Ceallaigh. The board discussed ways in which the Gallery could help the Florentine Cultural Artistic Fund [following the floods in Florence]. A loan request made by the Lord Mayor of Dublin was granted, however one made by Bord Iascaigh Mhara was refused. The following loans were accepted into the Gallery; a number of pictures offered by Sir Alfred Beit, a portrait of John Nunn Richard, and a painting by G. Caillebotte. The board accepted four pictures bequeathed by Mrs L.S.M.C Gimson, and accepted the gift of a portrait of Rev. J.M. Hamilton by Sarah Purser [NGI 1811]. The board opted to purchase "A Quiet Read" by Roderick O'Connor [NGI 1806], and eight plaster cast reliefs by Michael Stapleton [NGI 8016-8023]. A report was heard on the progress of the new Gallery wing, which would now be completed by 1968. The board heard comments on the affairs of the Shaw and Lane Funds.
