Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 7th October 1966 in which the following was discussed: the board received a report from the Attorney-General stating his approval of charging an entrance fee to certain exhibitions within the Gallery. Turifon Audio Guides had been introduced in the Gallery. The board approved of Radio Eireann holding a series of concerts in the Gallery. The board heard the Director's report on the Conservation Department. The Director was authorised to attend the Council of Europe meeting in Strasbourg as the Government's representative. The board discussed Christmas events to be held in the Gallery. The Director was given permission to borrow pictures from the Gallery. The board approved three requests for loans. An oil painting of peasants from the Somerville-Large bequest was accepted, along with the following other gifts; one oil painting and seven drawings by Jack B. Yeats, and a self-portrait by Louis le Brocquy [NGI 3824]. The board commented on the state of the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund. A sum of £10,000 had now been provided for the redesign of the Entrance Hall to the Gallery, not to be incurred before April 1968. The board decided that arrangements should be made to improve the acoustics in the Board Room.
