Minutes of board meeting held on 1st February 1961 in which the following was discussed: vote of sympathy on the death of Henry Mangan. It was agreed to appoint Seamus O' Saothrai (James Seery) as the new Registrar. It was decided to pay Dr Brandi £105 for his report dated 13th July 1960 on the question of setting up a restoration studio (payment to be made from the Shaw Fund). Breakdown of financial requirements for 1961/62 including allowance of £250 travelling expenses for board members. It was decided to purchase "Vanessa" by artist unknown [Possible Portrait of Hester Vanhomrigh, NGI 1643] from H Briscol for £300. It was decided to purchase "The Farm at Lezaven" by Roderic O'Connor [NGI 1642] for £1575 from Messrs Roland, Browne, and Debbancu(?). It was decided to purchase for £250 "Descent From the Cross" (School of Liege) [NGI 1641] offered by the late Kate Farrelly (Monsignor Shine Collection). It was decided to purchase "Portrait of Rene Descartes" (Dutch School) [NGI 1639] for £100 from the same collection. It was decided to purchase "The Mystic Marriage of St Catherine" by Benedetto Veli [NGI 1638] for £350 from the same collection. It was decided to purchase "The Annunciation" 'tentatively' ascribed to Carlone [NGI 1640] for £50 also from the Shine Collection. It was decided not to purchase several offered pictures. Detailed discussion of the Lane Fund. It was agreed to accept the Department of Education's proposal to appoint a night watchman but the provision to allow him one night off a fortnight was, in the boards view, inadequate. It was decided to allow the booklet 'A Tribute to Hugh Lane' by Professor Denis Grogan to be sold in the Gallery.
