Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 5th October 1960 in which the following was discussed: Sir Ernest Rowe [Rowe-Dutton] took his place on the board. The board seek travelling and subsistence expenses from the Department of Education. It was decided to lend "Portrait of a Lady" by Hans von Kulmbach [NGI 371] to an exhibition in Nuremberg. It was decided to lend "Sketch Design for a Landscape with Cattle" by Gainsborough [NGI 796] for five exhibitions in England. It was decided to lend "The 2nd Earl of Milltown" by Pompeo Battoni [NGI 702] for an exhibition in the Petit Palais, Paris. Further discussion on Shaw Fund. It was decided to inform the Department of Education that it 'would be desirable to acquire the power to lend pictures' to government departments. The board expressed their 'great uneasiness' about the Garda authorities refusing to 'undertake responsibilities for the protection of the Gallery'. Brief discussion of the appointment of the Registrar and the Assistant. It was agreed that Messrs Help and Messrs Johannes Schiller and Co, Koln should be permitted to make large size reproductions of the Gallery's paintings for commercial use 'without payment of fee'. Brief discussion of Lane Fund. It was agreed to purchase a 'duplicating machine' for the use of the board.
